Join in! Help us effectively manage the inaugural Loch Ness 360 Challenge. You can be part of it and ensure everyone involved has a fantastic time! As such, we require approximately 200 volunteers. We look forward to support from our local communities around Loch Ness and Inverness in this challenge! So join us and be part of it!

How To Become A Volunteer

If you would like to Volunteer at The Loch Ness 360 Challenge 2021, below outlines some of the positions available. Here you will find when exactly we will need you, our time schedule for recruitment and charity support involved.

Volunteer Positions Available

We need you! We require volunteers to help with the following activities:

  • The setting of, checking of and removal after of, course signage and aid stations
  • Car parking at the event hub in Dores
  • Registration for events on Thursday 28th, Friday 29th and Saturday 30th
  • Checkpoint duties
  • Marshalling at key points out on the event routes
  • Start & finish support

In addition, we may also require a few volunteers to act as support crews for our overseas ultra runners. Here you will supper our overseas ultra-runners, who may struggle to bring support crews with them. As part of this challenge, it is a mandatory requirement for ultra-runners to have a support crew.

We are also looking for between 10-20 persons to be ‘Section leaders’ and take responsibility for all race requirements in terms of signage, marshalling, start & finish, and safety of race participants, over one of the following sections of the event(s) route:

  • Dores to Craig Dunain
  • Craig Dunain to Drumnadrochit
  • Drumnadrochit to Invermoriston
  • Invermoriston to Fort Augustus
  • Fort Augustus to Foyers
  • Foyers to Dores

Ideally, the section leaders will have other event experience of such a role as well as first aid skills. Reflecting the responsibilities of the section leaders, they will be recompensed

When Volunteers Are Required 

With five events spread over three days and with one of the events

(the ultra) overnight, there is a lot of time to cover! Ideally, we are looking for people to do 8-hour shifts but any assistance is welcome, even if only for a few hours. The total hours daily that we require volunteers, albeit at times only a few, are as follows:

  • Thursday 27th – 17:00 – 20:00
  • Friday 28th – 06:00 – 22:00
  • Saturday 29th –05:00- 24:00
  • Sunday 30th – 00:00 – 23:00

In appreciation of your assistance with ensuring that the Loch Ness360 Challenge is a success and enjoyable for everyone, as a volunteer, you will receive event merchandise including a tote bag, beanie hat and snood

Schedule For Recruitment

The provisional schedule is as follows:

  • January volunteer registration opens
  • February, 1st update sent out to volunteers
  • March, confirmation of Section Leaders
  • March, 2nd update sent out to volunteers
  • April, confirmation of volunteers availability
  • April- allocation of tasks to volunteers and notification of
  • Mid -May, volunteer briefings notes distributed to all
  • Thursday 27th May verbal briefing to all Section Leaders


How To Volunteer

Charity Support

We welcome the support from charitable organisations who are able to provide a number of volunteers. In return, Visit Inverness Loch Ness is able to make a small donation to the charity in appreciation of their assistance.

Volunteers Team Leaders

In addition to volunteers, we require 8 ‘Team leaders’ to take overall responsibility for event requirements and volunteers over sections of the events route around the loch. Ideally, those chosen will have experience of this work but it is not a necessary requirement. In return, the Team Leaders will be financially rewarded and receive additional event merchandise.


Map of the Ultra Marathon Route

The map below shows the full 80-mile trail around Loch Ness. The northern red trail is part of the Great Glen Way. The South green trail forms the South Loch Ness Trail from Fort Augustus to Inverness.

The Other Challenge Options
